Maiden Adventurers are easily upgradeable from the peasant women prisoners that you find all over the place. Why? Because the knights and sergeants upgrade from Maiden Adventurers and you don't need Qualis to found factions, meaning that you can reserve all your faction nobles and Qualis gems for your CKO. Although this is true for stats, it isn't true logistically. Lots of people are saying that the best KO is Shadow Legion. Give them 2 quivers and a 2h axe so that they can storm walls when they are out of ammo. Train your sergeants as gunners or crossbowmen to destroy enemy shields. The reason for this is because you get an additional +4 to these skills if you take them on your character, meaning your actual skills will be +14. If you want few casualties, you need to take 10 surgery + 10 tactics on your character.
